SYMPTOMSIf you open a Microsoft Excel workbook as an active document (in-place) within Microsoft Internet Explorer, and then attempt to log off from Windows NT, you cannot log off and Excel returns the following error message: EXCEL.EXE continues running, although no user interface is present. You can only observe and end Excel through Task Manager or a similar tool in Windows NT. CAUSEThis problem occurs when you edit but do not save the workbook, before attempting to log off. WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, save your work and then quit every instance of Excel running within Internet Explorer. Then, try to log off again.
