XL2000: Supporting Data for the Initial View of Your PivotTable May Be Visible to Users

ID: Q236331

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you publish a PivotTable report to an interactive Web page, some of the database records that are summarized in the PivotTable may be accessible to users who view the Web page.

CAUSE

By default, when you publish a PivotTable report to an interactive Web Page, the Microsoft Office PivotTable component caches the records necessary to display the initial view.

WORKAROUND

If you do not want the Office PivotTable control to cache the data, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Excel workbook that contains the PivotTable report that you published.

  2. Click any cell within the PivotTable.

  3. Click the PivotTable arrow on the PivotTable toolbar, and then click Table Options.

  4. Click to clear the Save data with table layout check box and then click OK.

  5. Republish the PivotTable.

Excel deletes the previous cache and makes the source records for the initial view of the PivotTable no longer accessible to users of your Web page.

NOTE: You cannot utilize this workaround if your PivotTable is based on data stored in an Excel worksheet.

MORE INFORMATION

Excel stores the source records for the initial PivotTable view in a file named Published file name_Number_cachedata.xml where Published file name is the name of the HTML file that you published and Number is a random number generated by Excel.
