XL2000: Pasted Data May Include Hidden Cells

SYMPTOMS

When you paste a range of cells from Microsoft Excel 2000 to another Microsoft Office 2000 program, hidden cells may become visible. This happens even when you click Visible cells only in the Go To Special dialog box before copying.


CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • You copy a range that includes hidden or grouped rows or columns.

    -and-

  • You switch to another Microsoft Office 2000 program and click Paste on the Edit menu to paste the data in the default Clipboard format.


WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the Paste Special command to paste the information as text. For example, follow these steps in Microsoft Word 2000:

  1. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.


  2. Click Formatted Text (RTF), Unformatted Text, or Unformatted Unicode Text in the As list.


  3. Click OK.



MORE INFORMATION

The new HTML Clipboard format is the default format when copying and pasting data between Office 2000 programs. The HTML Clipboard format displays cells in hidden columns.
