XL2000: Invalid Page Fault Error Opening Workbook with Embedded Enhanced Metafile

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a workbook in Microsoft Excel, you may receive the following error message:

EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module EXCEL.EXE at 0137:302d2046.

CAUSE

The problem may occur under the following conditions:

• You point to Picture on the Insert menu, and then click From File and insert an enhanced metafile into an Excel workbook.
• The enhanced metafile is an anisotropic metafile.
• You open the Display tool in Control Panel and set the screen resolution to 1024 X 768.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
