XL97: Convert to MS Access Menu Command May Work Incorrectly
ID: Q159157
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel 97, when you click "Convert to MS Access" on the Data
menu, the "Convert to Microsoft Access" dialog box is not displayed.
Instead, the File Conversion Wizard is displayed.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- When you first click Add-Ins on the Tools menu, both of the
following add-ins are not selected:
File Conversion Wizard (Fileconv.xla)
Microsoft AccessLinks Add-In (Acclink.xla)
-and-
- You select both add-ins and click OK.
-and-
- On the Data menu, you click "Convert to MS Access," and then restart
Microsoft Excel 97.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, quit and restart Microsoft Excel 97. After you do
this, the "Convert to MS Access" menu command works correctly.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATION
This problem occurs because Microsoft Excel 97 does not register the two
add-ins correctly.
When you load Fileconv.xla, it creates the File Conversion command on the
Wizard submenu on the Tools menu. This command runs
Fileconv.xla!DoConvertCommand.
When you load Acclink.xla, it creates the Convert to MS Access command on
the Data menu. This command runs Acclink.xla!DoConvertCommand.
Note that each command points to the same macro name (DoConvertCommand) in
two different add-ins. When you load both add-ins at the same time, and
then click one of the menu commands, Microsoft Excel runs the first
DoConvertCommand macro that it finds. In this case, it runs the
DoConvertCommand macro in Fileconv.xla.
After you restart Microsoft Excel 97, this problem no longer occurs.
