XL97: Crash Inserting Wang Image Control on Alpha-based Computer

• Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
• Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a Wang Image Control from the Control Toolbox on a worksheet, you may receive the following Dr. Watson for Windows NT error message:

An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

Excel.exe

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the following conditions are true:

• You are running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

• You are running Microsoft Excel 97 on a computer that uses a DEC Alpha processor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
