XL97: Data Labels Appear on Axis and Not Inside Chart

SYMPTOMS

When you create a Bar chart with data labels, the labels and values should appear inside the chart (to the right of the vertical axis). However, in print preview only one label or value is displayed correctly; the others are displayed outside the chart (to the left of the vertical axis).

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you create a chart with both small values (for example, less than 20), and at least one large value (such as 10,000).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
