XL97: Cells That Contain User-Defined Functions Not Recalculated, Return #Value

ID: Q244466

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you recalculate a worksheet, cells that contain user-defined functions are not recalculated and return #Value.

CAUSE

This occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • The recalculation is invoked via the Calculate method.

    -and-

  • An untrapped run-time error occurs within a user-defined function (UDF) while recalculating a cell.

When the run-time error occurs, Excel stops the recalculation for the worksheet. All cells that have not been updated and are referencing the UDF will return #Value.

However, when you update the sheet by pressing the F9, only the cells in which the run-time error occurred will return #Value.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
