XL98: "Not Enough Memory" Error Messages Repeatedly Appear

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Excel, you may repeatedly receive the following error messages:

Not enough memory.
Continue without Undo?
-and-
Not enough memory.
-and-
Not enough memory to display completely.
-and-
Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space.
To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer need.
To free disk space, delete files you no longer need from the disk you are saving to.
When this problem occurs, your only choice is to click OK.


CAUSE

This problem may occur if the first action you perform generates an out of memory error message.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.


MORE INFORMATION

If this problem occurs, you can force Excel to quit. Note that when you force Excel to quit, any unsaved data is lost. To force Excel to quit, follow these steps:

  1. Press COMMAND+OPTION+ESCAPE.


  2. Click Force Quit.
