Query98: Query Returns More Records Than You Specify

ID: Q185023

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Query 98 Macintosh Edition
  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you return data from Microsoft Query to your Microsoft Excel worksheet, more records than you specified in the "Limit number of records returned to" box in the Preferences dialog box in Microsoft Query are returned.

CAUSE

The "Limit number of records returned to" option affects only the number of records to display in the data pane in Microsoft Query. This setting does not affect the number of records returned by your query.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Query.

MORE INFORMATION

The "Limit number of records returned to" option is useful if your query returns a large result set. Limiting the number of records that Microsoft Query can display in the data pane improves performance in Microsoft Query.
