XL98: Cells Adjacent to Print Area Are Printed

SYMPTOMS

When you print your workbook, Microsoft Excel prints cells not included in the print area.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when cells outside the print area are formatted with rotated text. Cells containing rotated text that are on the same row as the print area are printed.

For example, if the print area is set to cells A1 through B3 and cell D2 contains text that is rotated 45 degrees, cell D2 is printed even though it is not included in the defined print area.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

You can rotate text to any angle in a cell. With wrapped and rotated text, you can reduce the amount of horizontal space required by long text items such as headings, leaving more room for the details of your data. To format a cell with rotated text, click Cells on the Format menu. In the Alignment tab you can change the degree of text rotation in the selected cell(s).

However, when you set a print area and your worksheet contains one or more cells formatted with rotated text, these cells are printed if they are on the same row as the print area even though they are not included in the print area.
