SYMPTOMS
When you use the FileMaker Wizard to import data into your document, you encounter the following problems:
- The data that is imported into your Microsoft Excel worksheet is
not sorted.
- The sort order that you had applied to your FileMaker database
is removed.
WORKAROUND
To re-sort your database in FileMaker Pro or sort the imported data in Excel, use the appropriate method below.
How to Restore the Sort Order in Your FileMaker Database
To restore the sort order that you had applied to your FileMaker database, follow these steps:
- Start FileMaker Pro.
- Open the database for which you want to restore the sort order.
- On the Mode menu, click Sort.
- Click Sort.
How to Sort the Data That Was Imported into Your Worksheet
If you have imported data into a Microsoft Excel worksheet, you can use the built-in sorting tools to sort the result of your query. To do this, follow these steps:
If You Want to Sort by One Field
- Click the cell that contains the field name of the field that you want to sort.
- Click the Sort Ascending or the Sort Descending button on the Standard toolbar, depending on the order that you want to sort your data.
If You Want to Sort by More Than One Field
- On the Data menu, click Sort.
- In the Sort by list, click the field that you want to sort by. Click Ascending or Descending, depending on the order that you want to sort your data.
- In the Then by list, click the second field that you want to sort by. Click Ascending or Descending, depending on the order that you want to sort your data.
Skip to step 5 if you don't need to define any more fields to sort by.
- In the second Then by list, click the third field that you want to sort by. Click Ascending or Descending, depending on the order that you want to sort your data.
- Click OK to sort your data.
