XL98: Hyperlink Created by HYPERLINK Function Is Not Preserved in HTML File

ID: Q246197

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you view a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) file created by the Internet Assistant Wizard, some of the hyperlinks may not be functional. They may appear to be hyperlinks, but when you place the mouse pointer over the link in your browser, the shape of the pointer does not change to that for a hyperlink.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the hyperlink was created by the HYPERLINK function.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, re-create your HTML file in Excel and replace all hyperlinks using the HYPERLINK function, with hyperlinks created with the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.

To replace a hyperlink using the HYPERLINK function with a hyperlink using the Insert Hyperlink dialog box:

  1. Select the cell in which you want to replace the hyperlink.

  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy.

  3. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.

  4. In the Paste Special dialog box, click Values and then click OK.

  5. On the Insert menu, click Hyperlink.

  6. In the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, type the address for the hyperlink (for example, type http://www.microsoft.com) and then click OK.

  7. Repeat the previous steps for each hyperlink that you want to convert.

  8. Resave your Excel file as an HTML file.
