ACC: "Unexpected Error from External Database Driver [20]"
ID: Q100173
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Access versions 1.1, 2.0
SYMPTOMS
Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.
When you are using the network loadable module (NLM) version of Btrieve
and try to import, export, or attach a Btrieve table you receive the error
message "Unexpected error from external database driver [20]."
CAUSE
Btrieve returns this error message if you try to gain access to Btrieve
data with Microsoft Access before loading the Brequest.exe program. The
Xtrieve manual lists this error with the following description:
20 Record Manager inactive.
You made a request before starting the Record Manager.
Restart the Record Manager.
RESOLUTION
You must start the Brequest.exe program before starting Microsoft Windows.
You may want to create a batch file to run the Brequest.exe program before
starting Windows.
This error can also occur if the NLM version of the Wbtrcall.dll file is
used on a non-NLM version of Btrieve. The NLM version of Wbtrcall.dll is
approximately 13 kilobytes (K), while the non-NLM version of Wbtrcall.dll
is approximately 51K. Verify that the NLM version of Wbtrcall.dll is not
in the path prior to the non-NLM version to ensure that the correct
version is in use.
