SYMPTOMS

When you run the Setup program to install a program to a drive other than the drive that contains Microsoft Windows, the Custom setup dialog box does not display the disk space required on the drive that contains Microsoft Windows, even though the Setup program does install files to this drive.

For example, if Microsoft Windows is installed on drive C and you install a program to drive D, the Custom setup dialog box displays only the space required and the space available on drive D.

WORKAROUND

To view the space available and space required for some of the individual items that the Setup program installs, do the following:

  1. Select the option, such as Tools, in the Custom dialog box and click the Change Option button.

  2. The individual items that are installed for that option are displayed. Select an individual item in this dialog box (such as MS Info).

The directory for the currently selected item is displayed, as well as the required and available space on that drive.

Note that you cannot view the space required for all the files installed by the Setup program to the drive containing Microsoft Windows.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
