ACC: Add-ins Submenu Commands Unavailable

• Microsoft Access versions 2.0, 7.0, 97

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

All the commands in the Add-ins submenu are unavailable (appear dimmed).

CAUSE

The commands in the Add-ins submenu may be unavailable for any of the following reasons:

• No database is open.



• The currently opened database was created with a previous version of Microsoft Access and therefore you cannot make design changes. This may happen in the following situations:
  

  You open a Microsoft Access 1.x database with Microsoft Access 2.0
  
  You open a Microsoft Access 2.0 database with Microsoft Access 7.0
  
  You open a Microsoft Access 7.0 database with Microsoft Access 97

RESOLUTION

Convert your database to the current version of Microsoft Access. To do so, follow the steps appropriate for your version of Microsoft Access.

In Microsoft Access 97

1. Close any open database.



2. On the Tools menu, click Database Utilities, and then click Convert Database.



3. In the File Name box, select the Microsoft Access 1.x, 2.0, or 7.0 database to convert, and then click OK.



4. In the File Name box, type a new name for the converted database, and then click OK.

In Microsoft Access 7.0

1. Close any open database.



2. On the Tools menu, click Database Utilities, and then click Convert Database.



3. In the File Name box, select the Microsoft Access 1.x or 2.0 database to convert, and then click OK.



4. In the File Name box, type a new name for the converted database, and then click OK.

In Microsoft Access 2.0

1. Close any open database.



2. On the File menu, click Convert Database.



3. In the File Name box, select the Microsoft Access 1.x database to convert, and then click OK.



4. In the File Name box, type a new name for the converted database, and then click OK.
