ACC2: GPF Using OLE (Custom) Control Under Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Access version 2.0 under Windows 95 or Windows NT version 3.51, if you insert the Calendar, Scroll Bar, or Data Outline OLE control in a form in Design view and then switch to Form view, you may receive the following error message:


   This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. 

If you click the Details button, you see the following information:

   MSACCESS caused a general protection fault in module MSASB20.OCX. 


STATUS

This problem no longer occurs with the updated OLE controls, which are available in the Microsoft Access Developer's Toolkit OLE (Custom) Controls Service Pack. For information about how to obtain the Service Pack, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Steps to Reproduce Problem

WARNING: Following these steps will cause a general protection fault on your computer. Make sure you save and close any open work on your computer before following these steps.
  1. Create a new form not based on any table or query and open it in Design view.


  2. Insert the Scroll Bar control.


  3. Resize the Scroll Bar control several times.


  4. Switch to Form view. Note that you receive a general protection fault error. You may need to restart Windows 95 and Microsoft Access.
