ACC97: Error Exporting Access Table or Query to Existing Excel File with Chart Sheet

SYMPTOMS

You may experience the following problem when you export a table or query from a Microsoft Access database to an existing Microsoft Excel workbook, containing a chart sheet.

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
When you click Details, the following message appears:
MSACCESS caused an invalid page fault in MSEXCL35.DLL at 015f:022bdf9c.
NOTE: The actual memory address may vary.

If you are using Microsoft Windows NT, you receive the following error message:
An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

msaccess.exe
Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address 0x08f1df9c
NOTE: The actual memory address may vary.


RESOLUTION

To prevent this problem, install Microsoft Jet 3.51 Service Pack 2.


STATUS

This behavior no longer occurs in Microsoft Jet 3.51 Service Pack 2.


MORE INFORMATION

This problem does not occur if the chart is embedded on a worksheet.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Create an Excel file that contains a chart on a chart sheet.


  2. Save the file and close Excel.


  3. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.


  4. Select the Shippers table.


  5. On the File menu, click Save As/Export.


  6. Choose To an External File or Database, and then click OK.


  7. In the Save as type list, select Microsoft Excel 97.


  8. Select the file that you created in step 1, and then click Export.


Note that you receive one of the errors mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
