SYMPTOMS

When you create a table in Microsoft Access, you may receive the following error message:

There was an unexpected error when creating a table. Database incomplete.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you create a table by using the sample data that is included with Microsoft Access, and you use one of the Italian regional settings in Windows.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this behavior, create the table without using the sample data, or configure Windows to use the English (United States) regional setting before you create the table. To configure the regional settings in Windows, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional Settings.

  2. On the Regional Settings tab, click English (United States) in the list of regional settings, click OK, and then click Yes to restart your computer.

MORE INFORMATION

The sample data included with Microsoft Access may not recognize regional differences that contain commas and periods. The latest version of Microsoft Access does not include the sample data.
