ACC95: Renaming Form in Microsoft Access 95 May Cause GPF

SYMPTOMS

If you are using Microsoft Access 95 (version 7.0) on Microsoft Windows NT, and you create a new form in a new database, and then try to rename the form several times, a General Protection Fault (GPF) may occur.


CAUSE

This problem occurs if you have version 3.000.4513 of Microsoft Jet (MSJT3032.DLL) installed on your system.


RESOLUTION

Download the latest updated Jet DLLs from the Microsoft Web site. For additional information about downloading the updated DLLs, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Access listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

WARNING: Following these steps will cause a general protection fault on your computer. Make sure you save and close any open work on your computer before following these steps.

  1. In Access 95, create a new database, and then create a new form.


  2. Save the form as Form1.


  3. Rename the form by adding one character to the end of the name. For example, change


    4. Form1
    to:

    Form1a
  4. Rename the form back to the original name. For example, change


    5. Form1a
    to:

    Form1
