ACC: HPPCL5A Printer in DEBUG Windows Causes GP Fault

SYMPTOMS

Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

Printing on a HPPCL5A printer while using the DEBUG version of Windows 3.1 causes a general protection (GP) fault and generates the following error message:

err ACCESS->HPPCL5A GLOBALSIZE+C: Invalid global handle: 0x000

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

WARNING: Following these steps will cause a general protection fault on your computer. Make sure you save and close any open work on your computer before following these steps.

Use DEBUG Windows.

Open a database.

Create a new report.

Add two labels that overlap to the report.

Set the printer to the HPPLC5A printer, and then choose Print from the File menu. Note that you receive a GP fault and the error message mentioned earlier in this article.
