ID: Q94189

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1

SYMPTOMS

If you create a second relationship between two tables that already have a relationship, Microsoft Access will automatically remove the first relationship between the two tables.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps To Reproduce Behavior

  1. Create two tables that share a common field:

          Table: Table1
          ------------------------------
          Field Name: Test [Primary key]
          Date Type: Text

          Table: Table2
          ----------------
          Field Name: Test
          Date Type: Text

  2. From the Edit Menu choose Relationships, and create a relationship between Table1 and Table2 on the Test field with the Enforce Referential Integrity check box selected. Choose Add.

  3. Create another relationship between the two tables. Choose Add. Note that creating the second relationship removes the first.
