ACC1x: Troubleshooting "Out of Memory" Errors in Queries

ID: Q95008

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1

SYMPTOMS

When you run a query, you receive the following error message even though your system has sufficient memory and system resources:

Out of Memory

CAUSE

Microsoft Access allocates specific memory segments for compiling a query. If your query requires more memory than is stored in the segment, you will receive the error message stated above.

RESOLUTION

The following tips may help you to avoid an "Out of Memory" error message:

  • Reduce the number of columns in the table's design.

  • Reduce the size of the column names in the table's design.

  • Reduce the number of columns selected by the query.

  • Do not base a query on another query; run only a singe query at a time.

  • If a query that causes an "Out of Memory" error message includes another query, convert that query to a make-table query. Then, use the resultant table in the initial query, instead of the included query.
