ACC1x: Default Values of Attached Table Not Used

SYMPTOMS

When you attach a table from another Microsoft Access database, the default values in the attached table do not appear.


CAUSE

The default values in attached tables do not appear because Microsoft Access does not read the properties of attached tables.


STATUS

This behavior no longer occurs in Microsoft Access version 2.0.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior


  1. In any Microsoft Access database, create a new table with a field with a data type of Number, and a default value of 5. Save the table as Table1.


  2. Close the database, and open or create another database.


  3. Attach Table1 to the current database.


  4. Open Table1, and enter a few values. Note that the default value of 5 does not appear.
