Properly Rendering OLE Presentation Formats

ID: Q77469

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft OLE, version 1.0

The presentation format of an OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) object is used by the OLE libraries to display the object inside a client application. The formats that can be used are CF_METAFILEPICT, CF_DIB, and CF_BITMAP. If an object handler has been registered for the object class in the registration database, the native format may also be used as the presentation format.

The functions OleQueryCreateFromClip() and OleQueryLinkFromClip() fail if the native data format is used as the presentation format and no object handler has been registered for a particular object class.
