The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a
-
Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0
SYMPTOMS
When you insert a Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation object in a Microsoft
Excel version 5.0 workbook, the object does not play as a slide show when
you activate it. Instead, the presentation starts in PowerPoint in edit
mode. This behavior occurs whether you double-click the object icon or use
the Edit PowerPoint Presentation Object (Show) command.
RESOLUTION
The only way to have a PowerPoint presentation object play as a
presentation in a Microsoft Excel workbook is to not embed the object as an
icon. You can do this by using the following steps:
- Create a workbook in Microsoft Excel 5.0.
- From the Insert menu, choose Object.
- In the Insert Object dialog box, choose MS PowerPoint
Presentation. Do not select the Display As Icon check box. Choose
OK.
- Create a PowerPoint presentation of two or more slides.
- In PowerPoint, choose Exit And Return To Book1 from the File menu.
When you are prompted to Update Presentation in Book1, choose Yes.
You now have an image of the first slide in your presentation on the
Microsoft Excel worksheet. When you double-click the object, the
presentation runs. If the slide image on your worksheet is too large, you
can resize the object by dragging the corner resize handles.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel version
5.0. This problem has been corrected in Microsoft Excel version 5.0c for
Windows.
