CG5: Error: "Server Busy" When Inserting Clipart

ID: Q226768

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Clip Gallery 5.0 for Windows
  • Microsoft Office 2000 Standard

SYMPTOMS

If you insert clip art into a Microsoft Office 2000 application, the Clip Gallery may stop responding, and you may recieve an error similar to the following message.

Server Busy

This action cannot be completed because the "Microsoft PowerPoint - (<filename>.ppt)" program is not responding. Choose "Switch To" and correct the problem.

CAUSE

If you insert a WPG, PCX, or CDR picture file from the Clip Gallery into a PowerPoint presentation, Office 2000 may need to install or register the proper filter for this process. You may be prompted with the following message:

Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint can't import this graphic. This feature is not currently installed. Would you like to install it now?
This error must be answered before you can continue working inside the application. However, this error message appears behind the Microsoft Clip Gallery window, and cannot be seen. As a result, Clip Gallery appears to lock up and will eventually return the error listed in the Symptoms section of this article.

RESOLUTION

When the original error is recieved, click Switch to.... You will then see the message listed in the Cause section. Click Yes to install the appropriate filter. When the filter has been installed, the problem should not reoccur for this type of picture.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Office 2000.
