CG5: Prompt for CD-ROM When You Insert Clips

ID: Q235848

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Clip Gallery 5.0 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you try to insert a clip image into a document or presentation, you receive the following error message:

The file 'Image_name' is stored on a disc called 'CD_Name'. Please insert this disc.
You have the choices of Retry, Look Elsewhere, and Cancel.

Where Image_name is the actual file name of the image you selected, and CD_Name is either 'O9PRMCD02' or 'O9PROCD02'. This is the second compact disc in the Office 2000 set.

CAUSE

By default, the majority of the clip images that come with Microsoft Office 2000 are left on the compact discs. This was done to minimize the amount of hard disk space that Office would occupy.

RESOLUTION

There are two resolutions to this problem. One is to insert the Office CD2 compact disc when it is requested, and press Retry. The other is to install all the clip art from CD2 onto the hard disk.

The following table shows the number and approximate hard disk space needed for all the clips to be installed on your hard disk.

Office Version Number of Images Size (aprox)
Office Standard ~450 ~3 MB
Office Professional/
Small Business Edition
~16,800 ~270 MB
Office Premium/
Developer
~17,600 ~490 MB

To install the remaining clip art from CD2 of Office 2000, use the following steps:

  1. Close all programs that are open.

  2. On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  3. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

  4. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, click the Microsoft Office 2000 Disc 2 installation, and then click Add/Remove.

  5. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Add or Remove Features.

  6. Click the plus sign (+) next to Office Tools.

  7. Click the plus sign (+) next to Clip Gallery.

  8. Click the Clip Files icon.

  9. From the menu, click Run All from My Computer.

  10. Click Update Now, and allow Office 2000 setup to install the components to your computer.

Once the clip files are installed, you will not be prompted to insert the second CD from Office.

If all of the clip art is already installed to the computer and the problem persists, use the following steps:
  1. Close all programs that are open.

  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  3. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

  4. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, click your Microsoft Office 2000 installation, and then click Add/Remove.

  5. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Add/Remove

  6. Under Microsoft Tools, set the Clip Gallery icon to Not Available.

  7. Click Install Now.

  8. After Office Setup is finish, restart your computer.

  9. After your computer restarts, repeat steps 2 through 6, except choose Run from My Computer in step 6.

  10. Click Install Now.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
