Equation Editor: WinWord 1.x Equation Does Not Appear

You can convert equations originally created in Microsoft Word for Windows version 1.0, 1.1, or 1.1a to Word for Windows version 2.0; however, the Equation Editor may not start up when you double-click the equation.

If you embed an equation in a Word for Windows version 2.0 document, double-clicking the equation should open the Equation Editor. This does not always occur if the equation was converted as part of a Word for Windows 1.x file.

Sometimes after you double-click the equation, the Equation Editor opens with a blank window, indicating that no equation exists in that particular location.If this problem occurs, the equation is also deleted from the text of the document. To correct this problem, use the following steps:

Exit the Equation Editor, and close the file without saving changes.

Open the file. From the View menu, choose Field Codes (unless Field Codes are already turned on).

Position the insertion point immediately after the existing field code for the equation and retype the equation. Be sure to use CTRL+F9 to insert the special field code braces.

After you retype the equation field, the Equation Editor should work correctly.
