Equation Editor Position and Size Information

ID: Q83208

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Equation Editor, version 1.0

SUMMARY

The Microsoft Equation Editor version 1.0, which ships with Microsoft Word for Windows version 2.0, creates and uses a preferences file (EEPREFS.PRE) to store its size and position information. If the Equation Editor starts opening in an undesirable size or position on the screen, you can rebuild EEPREFS.PRE to return to the original default size and position settings.

Palette information is part of the EEPREFS.PRE file. Removing the EEPREFS.PRE file will also bebuild the palette.

MORE INFORMATION

The EEPREFS.PRE file is stored in the Windows directory and is updated each time you run the Equation Editor. It has a file size of 261K. Although the date changes each time you run the application, the size of the file does not change.

If you rename or delete the file, it is rebuilt the next time you run Equation Editor. After you rebuild the EEPREFS.PRE file, Equation Editor opens in the same size and position on the screen each time you start the application. If the Equation Editor opens in an undesirable size or position (that is, too high or too low on the screen), do the following:

  1. From the File menu, choose Exit and Return to <filename> to exit Equation Editor.

  2. From File Manager or MS-DOS, rename or delete the EEPREFS.PRE file in the Windows directory. (In File Manager, select the file, and choose Rename from the File menu. In MS-DOS, use the RENAME command.)

  3. From the Insert menu, choose Object, select Equation, and choose the OK button to start the Equation Editor.

Equation Editor should appear in the default size and position (centered on screen).

Note: The full-featured version of MathType (manufactured by Design Sciences, Incorporated) has a preferences file called MTSETT.PRE, which actually stores the program window position and size so that changes to the window size or position are saved from session to session.
