Right Bracket Appears Jagged with Matrix or Over/Underscript

-
Microsoft Equation Editor, versions 1.0, 1.0a, 1.0b
SUMMARY
If you are running Microsoft Equation Editor in the Microsoft Windows
operating system version 3.1, a closing bracket, brace, or parenthesis
character will be displayed incorrectly if the character follows an
underscript, overscript, or matrix template. In this situation, the
character will be displayed in a broken or jagged manner on the screen.
If you print to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet printer or a
PostScript printer, the closing character will print correctly;
however, if you print to a dot-matrix printer, the closing character
will be broken or jagged on the printout.
MORE INFORMATION
Inserting an argument with either an underscript or overscript
template inside a pair of parentheses (()), brackets ([]), or braces
({}) causes the closing parenthesis, bracket, or brace to appear
crooked. This appearance is consistent throughout the Equation Editor
and Word for Windows.
Note: Underscript and overscript templates are used to position one
expression or piece of text over another. Matrix templates are used to
build column vectors, matrices, and other tabular layouts.
Steps to Reproduce Problem
- From Microsoft Word for Windows version 2.0 (the client), start the
Equation Editor (the server) by choosing Object from the Insert menu.
Select Equation and choose the OK button.
- From the Fence palette, choose the Brackets template (the second
choice in the first row).
- With the insertion point inside the brackets, choose the 2-by-2
matrix from the Matrix palette (the third choice in the first row).
Note: The closing bracket appears broken, as if the lines composing it
do not fit together correctly.
- From the File menu, choose Exit and Return to Document. Choose the
Yes button when prompted to save the equation.
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information
here as it becomes available.
