Line Styles Print Incorrectly Using Win 3.0 Postscript Driver

SUMMARY

When you print a graphic created in Microsoft Draw to a PostScript printer using the Windows 3.0 PostScript printer driver, line styles may not print as they are defined.

This information applies to Microsoft Draw version 1.0 if you are using the program in Microsoft Windows 3.0 or 3.0a. This information does not apply if you are using Draw in later versions of Microsoft Windows.

If a line style is defined as anything other than solid (such as Dash-dot-dot), any lines created after choosing the non-solid line style will have the same non-solid line style when you print the drawing to a PostScript printer. This problem will occur regardless of how you define the subsequent line styles. All lines will appear correctly in the Draw window, the client application's document window, and the print preview window. The problem only appears in the printed document.

WORKAROUND

To correct this problem, upgrade to the Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.1. This problem does not occur with the updated PostScript printer driver that ships with Windows 3.1.

To work around this problem, create all solid lines first, then change line styles to create all non-solid style lines. The drawback of this workaround is that it allows only the creation of lines with two styles: one solid and the other non-solid.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows versions 3.0 and 3.0a. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
