The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Equation Editor, version 1.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Equation Editor version 1.0, which ships with versions 2.0 and 2.0a of Microsoft Word for Windows, if you change the font for an Equation Editor style and the MTFONTS.INI file cannot be saved, your font changes will not be saved.

You may be unable to save MTFONTS.INI if either of the following conditions exist:

  • You are running Equation Editor on a network, and you do not have adequate rights to the drive or directory where MTFONTS.INI is located.

  • You are using the MS-DOS SUBST command to associate the Windows directory to a drive letter.

MORE INFORMATION

The MTFONTS.INI file is created in the Windows directory the first time you run Equation Editor. This file has a default size of 240 bytes. It contains information on the font assigned to each style in Equation Editor and records the name of your active printer.

If you change this information during an Equation Editor session, it will be saved in the MTFONTS.INI file when you exit Equation Editor. If you cannot save the MTFONTS.INI file, the changed font information will be lost. The next time you run Equation Editor, the following message will be displayed:

Equation Editor will assign fonts available on the default printer to your equation in the appropriate styles. Use the Define command on the Style menu to make sure these assignments are to your satisfaction.
