Equation Editor: Closing Bracket Appears and Prints Jagged

ID: Q87628

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Equation Editor, version 1.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD
  • Microsoft Windows versions 3.0, 3.1

SUMMARY

If you create an equation that contains brackets in Microsoft Equation Editor and then scale the equation to a larger size in a Microsoft Word for Windows document, the closing bracket can become jagged. This problem frequently occurs when the brackets enclose two lines of text. The jagged closing bracket prints as displayed.

To realign the broken or jagged closing bracket, scale the equation up or down as needed.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem occurs with bitmap fonts only, which are available in fixed sizes and are not scalable. When a different size is requested through scaling, the bitmap font is resized; this often results in an uneven image.

This problem does not occur with TrueType fonts because they are scalable fonts.
