The PageBreak property returns or sets the location of a page break using the Microsoft Excel constants xlNone, xlManual, or xlAutomatic. The PageBreak property must be applied to an entire row or column (or returned using an entire row or column as a reference).

Macro to Return Page Break Type for Selected Cell

You can use the following example to test for an automatic page break above the active cell (horizontal) or next to the active cell (vertical) on your worksheet. In this example, the macro displays a dialog box with a message indicating whether there is an automatic page break above the current row.


   Sub Check_PageBreak()

       Dim i As Integer, BreakType As Integer

       ' To check for a vertical pagebreak, use the EntireColumn property.
       BreakType = ActiveCell.EntireRow.PageBreak

       If BreakType = xlAutomatic Then
           ' Enter the code that you want to run if the current row
           ' contains an automatic page break.

Macro to Return Page Breaks for Entire Worksheet

The PageBreak property returns a value indicating what type of page break exists in the selected range. The PageBreak property does not return the row or column number that the page break is associated with unless you test each row on the worksheet. The following macro checks your entire worksheet, and displays a dialog box with the type of page break and the number of the row located below the page break.


   Sub CheckForPageBreaks()
       Dim i As Integer

       For i = 1 to ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count
           If Rows(i).PageBreak = xlManual then
               MsgBox "There is a manual page break above row " & i
