XL97: Closing UserForm Causes MS Excel to Hang

SYMPTOMS

When you close a UserForm in Microsoft Excel 97, the program stops responding (hangs).


CAUSE

This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are true:

  • More than one UserForm is loaded into memory.


  • -and-

  • One of the UserForms that is loaded into memory contains a RefEdit control.


  • -and-

  • In the UserForm that contains the RefEdit control, you click the button on the control and collapse the UserForm.



WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not close a UserForm that is collapsed by a RefEdit control. Instead, expand the UserForm by clicking the RefEdit control button, and then close the UserForm.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Excel 2000.

In Microsoft Excel 97, a RefEdit control allows you to select a range of cells in a worksheet. When you select the range of cells, a UserForm that contains a RefEdit control collapses to allow you to see more of your worksheet.
