WD97: GetAddress Method Without Name Argument Causes IPF

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Visual Basic for Applications GetAddress Method and omit the optional Name argument, you receive the following error message:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shutdown.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
When you click Details, the following message appears:
WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in module WINWORD.EXE at 0137:30144b96.
For example, the following command line will cause this problem:

   x = Application.GetAddress(CheckNamesDialog:=True) 


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, include the Name argument when you use the GetAddress method. The Name argument can be a null value, like this:


   x = Application.GetAddress(Name:="", CheckNamesDialog:=True)

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Word 2000.
