The following Visual Basic for Applications macro searches the specified folder for files matching specific criteria:

   Sub GetListOfFoundFiles()
     ' Create variables.
      Dim fs As FileSearch
      Dim iFileCount As Integer
      Set fs = Application.FileSearch
      With fs
         .NewSearch
         ' Specify the folder to search.
         ' Modify this line to customize the search directory.
         .LookIn = "C:\My Documents"
         ' Specify the file(s) to find.
         .FileName = "*.doc"
         ' Perform the search.
         If .Execute > 0 Then
            If MsgBox("Insert list in new document?", vbYesNo) = vbYes Then
               ' Create new document.
               Documents.Add
               ' Add file name and paths to the document.
               For iFileCount = 1 To .FoundFiles.Count
                  With Selection
                     .Collapse Direction:=wdCollapseStart
                     .TypeText Text:=fs.FoundFiles(iFileCount)
                     .TypeParagraph
                  End With
               Next iFileCount
            End If
         Else
            MsgBox "There were no files found."
         End If
      End With
   End Sub
If files are found, the following message appears:

   Insert list in new document?
If you click Yes, the macro creates a new document and inserts the file names of all files that are found.
