OFF98: Cannot Use Save or Load with FileFind Object

SYMPTOMS

In any of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, when you try to save or load a FileFind query, nothing may appear to happen, or you may receive the following error message:

Run-time error '57': Device I/O Error


CAUSE

This problem occurs when you use the Save and Load methods of the FileFind object.


WORKAROUND

It is not possible to programmatically save or load these searches in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition. To work around this problem, manually create or load your searches. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Open, and then click Find File.


  2. Under Search For, in the File Name box, type the name of the file you want to search for.


  3. Click Save Search As. When prompted, type a name for the search, and then click OK.


The search will now appear in the Saved Searches list.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
