XL97: Blank Line Inserted into Module

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft Excel workbook that contains a Visual Basic module, a blank line is inserted at the beginning of the module.


CAUSE

This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are true:

  • Your workbook contains a Visual Basic module.


    • -and-

  • The workbook is in the Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook file format.


    • -and-

  • You open the workbook in Microsoft Excel 97.


    • -and-

  • You continue to save the workbook in the Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook file format.


Each time you save, close, and reopen your workbook, a new blank line is inserted at the top of the module.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
