OL98: ActiveInspector.CurrentItem Returns Wrong Contact Item

SYMPTOMS

You use the ActiveInspector.CurrentItem property in the Outlook object model when there are multiple contact items open, and the property does not return the contact item that was last used.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem happens only with contacts, and does not occur with mail messages, tasks, or other types of items.

Open two contacts.

Run the following automation code from Visual Basic or Visual Basic for Applications after setting a reference to the Microsoft Outlook 98 object model.


Sub GetItem()
   Dim ol As New Outlook.Application
   MsgBox ol.ActiveInspector.CurrentItem.FullName
End Sub

On the taskbar, activate the second contact (the contact that was not identified by the code in step 2).

On the taskbar, click the Visual Basic Editor taskbar button.

Run the code from step 2 again and the same contact name will be displayed.
