OFF97: "Project is unviewable" Error Trying to View VBA Project Locked or Digitally Signed in an Office 2000 Program

SYMPTOMS

If you try to view a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications project in the Visual Basic Editor, the following error message appears:

Project is unviewable


CAUSE

You cannot view or modify the contents of your Visual Basic for Applications project in an Office 97 program when one of the following conditions is true:

  • The project has been digitally signed.


  • -or-

  • The project has been locked in an Office 2000 program.


WORKAROUND

You must open your file in the appropriate Office 2000 program in order to view or modify the Visual Basic project.

NOTE: If your project is locked, you must also know the appropriate password to view or modify the project.
