SYMPTOMS
If you rename an object on a PowerPoint slide and then group that item with another item, the group will claim the name of the renamed object; however, the group cannnot be referenced by the same name. CAUSE
This problem is caused by the naming convention used by the Microsoft Office Drawing layer for objects that are grouped and ungrouped. The group assumes the name of the first shape in the group. If the group is ungrouped, the first shape takes on the name of the group. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
