Files Created during Paintbrush 4.00 Setup

SUMMARY

PBSETUP for Microsoft Paintbrush 4.0 creates the following five files during the installation:


   PAINTBR.OV1
   PAINT.BAT
   SYS.FNT
   PBRUSH.INI
   PBSYS.OV1

PAINTBR.OV1

You can manually create PAINTBR.OV1 by copying the file PBX.OV1 from the Paintbrush UTILITIES disk into the PBRUSH directory and renaming it PAINTBR.OV1.

If PBSETUP fails to create this file, the following error message is displayed when PAINT.BAT is executed:
Could not read Program overlay

PAINT.BAT

PAINT.BAT is a batch file used to execute Paintbrush.

SYS.FNT

SYS.FNT determines the size of the text displayed on the Paintbrush screen. The appropriate file from the following list is copied to SYS.FNT:

   File         Display Size
   ----         ------------

   SYS12.FNT    640 x 480 display
   SYS10.FNT    640 x 350, 720 x 348, or 600 x 400 display
   SYS8.FNT     640 x 200 display
   SYS5.FNT     320 x 200 display 

PBRUSH.INI

PBRUSH.INI determines the number of colors present in the frame display for Paintbrush. The appropriate file from the following list is copied to PBRUSH.INI:

   BW.INI
   COLOR4.INI
   COLOR8.INI
   COLOR16.INI
   COLOR256.INI 

PBSYS.OV1

PBSYS.OV1 determines the color attributes and size of the tools in the toolbox. The appropriate file from the following list is copied to PBSYS.OV1:

   CGABW.OV1
   CGACLR.OV1
   EGABW.OV1
   EGACLR.OV1
   VGABW.OV1
   VGACLR.OV1 
If PBSETUP fails to create PBSYS.OV1, an error message "Could not read System overlay" is displayed when PAINT.BAT is executed.
