Cannot Change Color of Palette in 4-Color CGA Mode

ID: Q70743

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Paintbrush for MS-DOS, version 4.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Paintbrush, version 4.0, when the video display is set for CGA 4-color mode, you cannot perform any of the following changes to the palette area:

  • Set Entire Palette

  • Set Color Pattern

  • Setting Brightness, Hue, Tint, Contrast, HLS, RGB

MORE INFORMATION

Paintbrush 4.0 was designed so that when you are in 4-color CGA mode, the screen stays at the default settings. Therefore, you cannot change anything relating to the color or appearance of the palette. The CGA driver is reading the video information from the hardware level. This is not being controlled by the software at all. Therefore, any changes are not effective.
