BUG: KeySta16.ocx Is Not Registered in an Alpha Computer

SYMPTOMS

When you install the 16-bit edition of Visual Basic 4.0 in a computer using the Alpha processor under Windows NT 3.51, the setup program fails to register the MicroHelp Key State Control. This control also cannot be registered within the Visual Basic IDE.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be an issue in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. Microsoft is researching this issue and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.


MORE INFORMATION

When the Setup program is updating your system, the following message is displayed, "REGOCX16 caused an Illegal Instruction in module KEYSTA16.OCX @ 0001:4279." The same message is also displayed when you attempt to register the control through Custom Controls dialog box accessed from the Custom Controls option of the Tools menu. Other memory addresses where this occurs are 0001:4431 and 0001:43FS.
