This article describes how to install the updated Books Online.
MORE INFORMATION
The steps to install the updated Books Online differs depending upon
whether or not the April, 1998 edition of the Microsoft Developer Network
(MSDN) is installed.
April, 1998 MSDN is Not Installed
If you do not have the April, 1998 edition of the Microsoft Developer
Network (MSDN) installed, the following steps demonstrate how to install
the updated Books Online documentation for Windows CE Toolkit for Visual
Basic 5.0 after the Control Pack has been installed:
- Make sure the Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0 is properly
installed.
- Copy the VBCE.ivi and VBCE.ivt files from the Books Online folder on the CD to the Help folder where you have the Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0 installed.
NOTE: You should copy these files over the existing ones in that folder. For example, the location of the help folder may look like:
C:\Program Files\DevStudio\VB\vbce\Help
April, 1998 MSDN Is Installed
If the April, 1998 edition of the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) is
installed, the following steps demonstrate how to install the updated Books
Online documentation for Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0 after the
Control Pack has been installed:
- Make sure the Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0 is properly installed.
- Copy the VBCE.ivi and VBCE.ivt files from the Books Online folder on the CD-ROM to the Help folder where you have the April, 1998 edition of the MSDN installed.
NOTE: You should copy these files over the existing ones in that folder. For example, the location of the folder may look like:
C:\Program Files\DevStudio\MSDN
NOTE: When you launch Books Online for the first time after moving these Files, you may get an error message. This is because the location
information for the Books Online topic that was viewed last has been saved
to the registry and is no longer valid due to the manual replacement of the
VBCE.ivi and VBCE.ivt files. This error message will only appear once and
should not be encountered the next time Books Online is launched.
