PRB: Books Online Topic May Not Include Control Pack Info

Microsoft Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0

SYMPTOMS

After installation of the Windows CE ActiveX Control Pack 1.0, the Books Online topics for the Control Pack controls are not present.

CAUSE

There are two scenarios that may cause this issue:

Scenario 1

The installation of updated Books Online that ships with the ActiveX Control Pack does not overwrite the existing VBCE.ivi and VBCE.ivt files.

Scenario 2

The April, 1998 edition of the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) has been installed.

RESOLUTION

For Both Scenarios

To install the updated Books Online documentation for Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0:

Make sure the Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0 is properly installed.

Copy the VBCE.ivi and VBCE.ivt files from the Books Online folder on the CD-ROM to the appropriate location on your hard drive.

NOTE: If you have the April, 1998 edition of the MSDN, this location could be:

C:\Program Files\DevStudio\MSDN

If you do not have the April, 1998 edition of the MSDN, this could location could be:

C:\Program Files\DevStudio\VB\vbce\Help

Scenario 1

The Windows CE ActiveX Control Pack versions of the VBCE.ivt and VBCE.ivi files are not manually moved to the proper location after the installation of the Control Pack. Please see the ReadMe.htm file installed with the Windows CE ActiveX Control Pack for more information.

Scenario 2

The installation of the April, 1998 edition of the MSDN includes the original VBCE Books Online topics and sets the path information in the registry to those topics. Therefore, the information that is referenced when Books Online is launched is not the Control Pack version of the VBCE topics (dated 5/98), but the original VBCE topics (dated 1/98).
