SETUP.EXE Underestimates Required Hard Disk Space

ID: Q90968

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Visual Basic Standard and Professional Editions for MS-DOS, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

The setup program (SETUP.EXE) used to install Visual Basic may underestimate the required hard disk space for all the necessary files to be successfully loaded.

If you run out of hard disk space during the installation, the following error message will be displayed:

Error has occurred during setup...Retry, Ignore, Abort

WORKAROUND

The setup program can underestimate the needed disk space by 200K to 300K in the Standard Edition, and by approximately 500K in the Professional Edition.

To work around this problem, clear more hard disk space, delete what has been installed thus far, and run SETUP.EXE again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in Microsoft Visual Basic for MS-DOS, version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
