L1023 Error After Pressing Ctrl+Break While Linking a Program.

ID: Q93011

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Visual Basic Standard and Professional Editions for MS-DOS, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When the Microsoft Visual Basic for MS-DOS environment is in the process of linking a large program together to produce an executable program, you may get a L1023 linker error, "Terminated by user". This error means that you pressed the combination keys Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Break during the linking process, which results in the linker creating a temporary file to disk and possible hang of the system. The hang may even require a cold boot (turning the computer off and then on).

WORKAROUND

To avoid a possible hang of your machine, avoid interrupting the link process.

STATUS
